Internet Marketing - How to Use Leverage to Generate Traffic
We all put a lot of effort into out internet marketing businesses. Sometimes it seems like we are doing all we can. And we are. There are limits to the amount of effort that any individual or business can put into its own endeavours. But what if you could leverage off the efforts of others to magnify your own efforts.
Of course, you can!
One of the simplest ways that we all use leverage everyday on the internet is through harnessing the power of the search engines to find information and products that we need. It seems simple to type a word or phrase into the generic Google box and hit enter - instantly showing use hundreds of thousands of relevant matches to our search. It wasn't always so...
You might use Google or one or more of the other search engines to leverage your own product or information by optimising your site, or through paid advertising. But Google isn't the only place that people visit on a regular basis to search for information relevant to your own offers.
One of the simplest ways to generate free traffic to your website is through contributing to other high traffic sites. And you can use these sites as inspiration for your own ideas (or as a source of easy keywords for your internet marketing campaigns and SEO).
Here's an idea of how you might construct a routine for leveraging off the effort of other webmasters in your niche.
1. Starting with Google is always a safe bet. Type a keyword that is relevant to your offer and then browse the results. You might notice several sites are common to a number of your keywords. Note these sites and continue.
2. Contribute. Many popular sites allow users to contribute to the content. It keeps it fresh and boosts search engine ranking. Take advantage of this opportunity to add your own input and wherever possible link back to your own offer. We all know this, but do we do it on a regular (daily) basis? Imagine how many backlinks you can generate by simply posting to 4 - 5 popular sites each day? How much free traffic would this generate for you?
3. Copy. A lot of thought and effort goes into the building of a successful site. Take advantage of this by scanning every site you visit for ideas and inspirations that you can replicate for yourself. If it's proving successful for someone else, chances are it will be successful for you too.
4. Keyword research. It is very easy to generate huge lists of keywords, but are they truly relevant to what you are selling? Probably not. The most relevant keywords are always going to be the mainstay of your business. So go fishing for keywords when you visit a successful site. View the source code and note the keywords in the meta tags, the title tag and description. And use Google's keyword suggestion tool to find out what the authority sites in your niche are really about.
5. Linkbacks. Use Google to find out what sites are linking to the authority sites in your niche (ie search for 'link:http://www.authoritysite.com'). What are these sites about and why are they linking to the site in question? Is there an opportunity for you to develop a relationship with some of these sites too and get linkbacks to your own content?
These ideas are just a starting place.
There are also a lot of ways to leverage off the traffic of social websites and while I'm not going to cover this in great detail in this article I'll briefly describe the basic process that I go through when I develop new content related to my niche.
I usually start with an article (like this one). Well, actually, I usually start with someone elses material. I don't mean in terms of plagarism. Far from it. I read a lot and I'm often very impressed with something and just start 'getting it'. When I find I'm making connections or when I feel that I understand something I note down the things that I'm learning and then I write it out.
Posting an article made up of your understanding of a subject is a great way to learn something deeply, but it also starts a process of generating new free traffic to my offer.
After I've written an article, and I usually write something every day, I post a shorter summary to my blog and ping it. I then submit the article to a social bookmarking site and surf around for a while using search phrases related to what I have just written and write a few short comments where I can in relevant forums. Then I link back to my article. I might also write up a hub at Hubpages or Squidoo (and bookmark it) and if the material is appropriate I'll also make a short, simple video and post it to Youtube...
It doesn't take very long, perhaps an afternoon or an evening and not only have I cemented a new subject firmly in my mind, but I've created a large amount of fresh content and linkbacks that will, on average, generate about 1000 unique visitors a month to my squeeze page and up to 100 new subscribers.
Simple as that
So next time you're struggling to find any more effort to put into your internet marketing business, remember - leverage off the efforts of others in your niche and the power of social sites and make your efforts stretch further than ever before.
